Well, I'm not updating too regurarly, am I? :) Guess it's the
'summer lazyness' that struck Jaap too... Anyway, I did get some
interesting things done lately. The kd-tree compiler is now
working (or so it seems), including mini-bsp's at the leaves.
So I extended my test application with a 'render' function, which
currently only traverses the kd-tree. Adding rudimentary screen
output should be done this week.
And o yeah, I found the 'holy grail'... :) Well, not exactly
actually, but the visibility solution that I described in the doc
(which should be online soon) is good enough for me to stop
searching for fundamentally different techniques, for the moment.
I'm going to 'focus' on illumination models. I would like to
work out an alternative for the usual lightmap stuff: Maybe
some precalculated hard shadows, using projected textures? Gives
scenes that nice anime-style look... And it's much faster for
accelerated 3D.
That's it. Now you know what I'm doing. :)
