    NVidia sent along the following information about a new release (version 5.1) of the NVSDK:

    " NVIDIA is proud to release version 5.1 of the NVSDK, an upgrade to the major components of the modern 3D developer's toolkit. Updates to the OpenGL SDK include effects such as vertex program refraction with irridesence, detail normal maps, procedural texturing with dynamic bump maps, advanced shadowing methods and a wealth of up-to-date documentation. We also are excited to release the beginnings of an Audio SDK, which will continue to expand in anticipation of NVIDIA's nForce products.     Memon sent word that there's a new version of Demopaja available, a demo authoring tool with an interface similar to Adobe After Effects. According to the author, "The new version adds 3D Studio exporter plugins, Flash Plugin, new 3D engine plugin, some new effects, and also some changes to the UI. The new SDK will be released shortly, and it'll include DirectX 8 support to Demopaja."

    Codeplay announced today the Playstation 2 version of their VectorC compiler. Here's a clip from the press release:

    " LONDON, UK - 7th August, 2001 - Codeplay, provider of high performance game development tools, announced the PlayStation 2 version of their flagship vectorC compiler. VectorC will allow Playstation 2 games to be developed easier, faster and with more features than previously possible.

    VectorC exploits the ability of the latest microprocessors to perform multiple operations in parallel. The new SIMD (single instruction, multiple data) instructions enable a large boost in processing power, however taking advantage of them is a time consuming process which has so far required the deployment of complex assembly language programming. "

    Beosil sent word that he's released version 0.6 of Cal3D, "a skeletal based 3d character animation library written in C++ in a platform-/graphic API-independent way."

    According to the author, "The following features were added to the free skeletal-based character animation library: progressive meshes for LOD, unified exporter framework, flexible material handling, user-data fields and a much nicer rendering API."
