    HawkVoice Details Released

    Phil Frisbie, Jr. of Hawk Software sent along the following information about the HawkVoice library:

    " I am finally releasing the first details on my HawkVoice API since it was split off into a separate project. For those that have not yet heard of it, HawkVoice is a portable, open source code, cross platform library to add voice to games and other apps. It currently supports 5 codecs from 64 Kbps down to 2.4 Kbps. HawkVoice is written in ANSI C, with just a few lines of pthread code. It is built on top of the low level HawkNL library.

    Math Function Parser

    Andreas Hartl sent word that he's released the C++ source code to a free math function parser. According to the author, the parser includes the following features:
  • Mathematical functions of any length can be processed
  • Unlimited number of braces
  • available ops are +, -, *, /, ^, sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, abs, sqrt
  • support for both integer and double values, positive or negative
  • variables optional, for drawing graphs etc.
  • very fast execution speed

    Build 1.0.0.118 of GLSetup has been released, described on its site as a utility that "detects your 3D graphics card and installs the matching OpenGL drivers. Games supporting OpenGL will include GLSetup to ensure your system has drivers available to accelerate OpenGL 3D rendering."

    The Helios32 site has been updated with the January 2001 edition of RADBIB.BIB, described as a "comprehensive bibliography of radiosity and related global illumination papers, theses, articles, and books." There are 7 new additions since last month.

    Two new digital art sites have recently been launched: Skindom, a community news and resource site for skin/texture artists; and ArtBeast, which appears to be a more general graphics resource site. Both are worth a look if you're interested in digital art.

    GrafX2 Source Code

    Noticed over on Orange Juice that Sunset Design released the source code to GrafX2, a freeware, 256-color, bitmap painting program for DOS that's "dedicated to everybody who knows what a single pixel is." According to the site, the source code release appears to be primarily aimed at "courageous ones who might want to continue the program or port it to other OSes."

    New Free Pascal Compiler

    Version 1.0.4 of the Free Pascal Compiler is now available, a free 32-bit pascal compiler, available for a variety of operating systems. According to the documentation, its "designed to be, as much as possible, source compatible with Turbo Pascal 7.0 and Delphi 5 (although this goal is not yet attained), but it also enhances these languages with elements like function overloading."

    Tom Nuydens over at Delphi3D recently released a new cartoon rendering demo, based on spherical environment mapping. The Delphi source code is included, as well as an explanation of how the "effect" is achieved.

    Tomas Arce announced the release of the Zen-X Engine (version 2.0) to the public domain. According to the author, it "contains examples on how to do pixel shaders, as well as vertex shaders, it has a math library and many other cool stuff."

    " I've created a package for the MingW32 & DevC++ user which allow them to compile the game library and DirectX 7 programs without problems. And I've uploaded the Game Library version 1.1.8 on the web site. This version add some new features like 12bits bitmap support (16bits ARGB4444) and some bug fix. "
