Radon Labs released an updated version of the Nebula Device, a free, high-quality, 3D game engine, released with the full source code. This update includes improved support for multi-texturing, a new vertex buffer infrastructure, smooth skinning, and several other new features and improvements. Collake Software released version 1.01 of PEBundle, a shareware utility, which according to the site "allows for DLLs or other files to be ‘bundled’ with an executable, therefore removing the requirement to distribute the bundled files separately from the application."

New JRobots Challenge

CFXWeb announced the launch of their November 2000 Jrobots Challenge, a java programming game. Here's a description from the site:

" Jrobots is a clone of a DOS game called Crobots. Some robots fight in an arena, firing missiles and avoiding enemies' projectiles. At the end only one will survive! This game is involving, but it's not interactive: you must develop the AI algorithms of your own robot using the Java language, then you upload it in the arena and follow on-line its fight against other robots. "

    " We're looking to hire a couple of programmers at the Santa Monica/Los Angeles location of Sony Computer Entertainment America; to work on Playstation 2 console games.

    The ideal applicants should be proficient in C/C++, be well- rounded with good problem solving skills, and be team players.

    Previous game development experience is a definite plus, but extremely clever people with no previous experience are also considered. Network experience would also be a plus.

    The Magic Software site has been updated with a new document by David Eberly, describing the algebraic methods for cylinder intersection tests. According to the site, "The algorithm involves the method of separating axes, but it is quite a bit more complex than the separating axis tests for convex polyhedra."     " The full source-code and textures of the Realtime Landscape Demo have been released.

    You can also find the complete source of the new C++ 3D Game Engine at baskuenen.cfxweb.net. This engine is currently being programmed, and the source is shared with other 3D (game) engine developers. "

    Torn Space sent along the following information about the recent release of their game development library known as "The Wormhole":

    " The Wormhole is a set of C++ classes designed to allow the programmer easier access to the functionality of DirectX.

    Included are classes that take care of DirectDraw, DirectSound, and DirectInput. Plus, applications written with the Wormhole Library support both full-screen and windowed modes, and can be switched and minimized at will. "

    CFXWeb sent word that Lonerunner posted two new OpenGL demos on his CFXWeb-hosted site. The first demo illustrates some of the basic functions of GLUT, and the second is a real-time bezier patch demo with several rendering effects. Both demos include the source code.
