John Ratcliff sent along a rather interesting tool for you guys to check out. Its a Quake3 BSP Converter, used to export the mesh data to a standardized ASCII format. " Q3BSP is a Windows console application that will convert any valid Quake 3 BSP file into an organized polygon mesh and export the results into a standardized ASCII file format, VRML 1.0. I encourage users of this software to expand this tool to export in other popular ASCII file formats, especially ones which support multiple U/V channels... "

You can download the utility here:

  • q3bsp_src.zip (36k) - Source Code Only

        Discuss This!

Jeff Lander sent along the following information about the Game Technology Seminars that'll be taking place early next year (January 30 - February 2, 2001):

" The complex and sophisticated game consoles, personal computers, and graphics chips of today and tomorrow make game development more technically challenging then ever. To stay competitive, the highest end game programmers need to truly understand the most intense and cutting-edge technical information available. To satisfy this demand, Chris Hecker and Jeff Lander created the Game Technology Seminars. The seminars provide developers with technical information unmatched in its depth, clarity, and focus, covering the algorithms and underlying mathematics for some of the most difficult and important programming topics. We select specific topics and focused themes that are timely and of great interest to hard core game programmers. Then, we bring together the top researchers and developers to address these issues in intense two day workshops consisting of lectures, panels, and peer discussions. We strictly limit the attendance to keep the quality high, and last year's seminars were a sold-out smashing success! This year's Physics seminar, to be held on January 30-31, 2001, is devoted to Continuum Dynamics, the study of gasses, liquids, soft-bodies, and other non-rigid objects. The Graphics seminar, to be held on on February 1-2, examines Geometry and the Mathematics of Geometry Processing. Full information can be found on the Game Technology Seminar website at www.techsem.com. The early registration deadline is December 8, so register now! "
