Inertia 3D Source Code

Alex Chalfin sent along the following info about the source code release of the Inertia 3D engine:

" I'd like to announce that the full source code to my once shareware 3d engine (Inertia 3D) has been released. Source code includes Turbo Pascal v6 & v7, Borland Pascal v7 (16-bit DPMI), 32-bit TMT Pascal, 32-bit Watcom C, and Windows MSVC versions of the source code. Binaries and source to all of the tools for Inertia (ASC, 3DS file converters, Normal computations, shade table generators, and counter clockwise normal sorting). Binaries and source code to a bunch of example programs. Programming and reference documentation is made available as well.

    Paul Nettle of Fluid Studios sent word that he's updated the publications portion of the Fluid web site with a bunch of new developer content, including utilities and source code. There you'll find:
  • A new collision detection demo, described by Paul as "a pretty complete mini-3D engine, complete with homogenous xforms, 3D clipping, etc", written with the beginning 3D programmer in mind.
  • A font-generation tool (with source code) which makes use of true-type fonts.
  • Updated "all-purpose matrix class"
  • Updated software texture mapping demo (now with w-buffering)

    BuschnicK sent word that he's launched the web site for the BlackFish game engine project, described as "an open source isometric game engine written in C++ for the MS windows DirectX7 platform. It runs in 800x600x16 graphics mode, either windowed or fullscreen. A custom map editor, called EditFish, is included."

    There's a new feature tutorial here on flipcode entitled Generating Names Phonetically, by Jim Adam. In this tutorial, Jim explains how to generate names (for characters, places, etc in your games) using phonetics. In addition, he presents a simple phonetic name generator for you to experiment with.
