The Art Institute of Pittsburgh announced the recent launch of its Game Art & Design bachelor's degree program. Here's a snippet from the press release:

"Game Art & Design aims to bring a new generation of talent to the computer and video gaming industry, with 2001 sales that hit levels of $6.35 billion with 225 million units sold. According to the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association, 2002 sales are expected to reach between $10 and $12 billion.

The Art Institutes began offering Game Art and Design in Phoenix, with curriculum created under the careful analysis and direction of industry specialists. Professionals with work experience at Sega of America, Macromedia, Konami, Pixar, LucasArts, Sonique, PDI Dreamworks and Apple assisted in developing career-focused courses with emphasis in character development, visual storytelling, game design strategy, 3D animation and texture-mapping. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh has responded to this industry demand by joining its sister schools in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale, Portland, Phoenix, Chicago, and Shaumburg in offering this degree program at its Pittsburgh campus and in the virtual classrooms of The Art Institute Online, a division of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
