Norman Lin sent along the following news about Blender3D, a popular 3D modeling and animation package that has been having some funding difficulties lately:

"The previously freeware Blender 3D modeling program, one of the most powerful freeware 3D programs, is going to be released under the GPL license - but only after a one-time $100K USD is paid to the parent company to release the intellectual property rights to the software. After that, the program's sources will be free as in freedom - GPL! If the $100K fee is not met, the program will probably be put on hold indefinitely. The funding campaign has now started."
