Floris van den Berg sent along the following information about the release of FreeImage 2.0:

" Via this e-mail we, the FreeImage development team, want to announce the new version of FreeImage. Version 2.0 really is a new library, not an upgrade, no matter what the version number might suggest.

FreeImage is an Open Source library project for developers who would like to support popular graphics image formats like BMP, JPEG, TIFF and PCX and others as needed by today's multimedia applications. The libraries comes in two versions: a binary distribution that can be linked against Microsoft Visual C++ 6 and a source distribution compilable using any Windows or Linux compiler. "
