Mr-GameMaker posted a new tutorial on Creating a Solid Node Based BSP Tree Compiler & Renderer, by Gary Simmons. As the title implies, this article explains how a solid node-based BSP tree compiler works, then takes it a few steps further to show you how to actually use the resulting structure for rendering and collision detection in a 3D engine. This is a really long document which appears to be a good place to start if you're new to BSP trees. The tutorial includes a demo with source code as well.
