Rich Geldreich sent word that he's released an alpha version of the Small JPEG Decoder Library, a free (LGPL) JPEG decoder library for VC++ developers. Here's the buzz from the web site:

" The Small JPEG Decoder Library is a C++ library for Visual C++ 6.0 users that can decode the most common types of JPEG images. It's not the fastest or most full-featured JPEG library available, but it's completely free with full source code (LGPL license), uses little memory, and should be relatively easy to understand and further optimize (mostly because it's so small: main decoder module is less than 2300 lines). It supports the very common and popular Huffman DCT-based sequential and progressive modes of operation (8-bit precision only). "
