The third issue of Driving DirectX is now available, a DirectX-specific column on MSDN, by Philip Taylor. Here's a clip from the article's introduction:

" Welcome to the third issue of Driving DirectX, a DirectX-specific column for MSDN Online Voices. This is the first column out of four presenting Direct3D samples based on DirectX 7 D3DFrame. In the previous column, I mentioned that this month we will discuss how to get around the eight-light limit for hardware lighting, or "virtual" lights. With that in mind, we will call this month's sample VLite. We will use our knowledge of D3DFrame and focus on just the important "bits." "
