OpenGL.Org posted a news bit about an OpenGL LOD Landscape program, by Nicholas Anderson. It uses a version of the quadtree algorithm documented in the paper Real-Time Generation of Continuous Levels of Detail for Height Fields. The program, source code, and screenshots are all available from the web site.
