Tribes 2 Scripting
Dopplegangers.com posted an interview with Tim Gift about the scripting system in Tribes 2. Here's a taste from the interview:
Emo1313 : Why is it that Tribes / Dyanmix has preferred to stick with the script as opposed to going to native code like a lot of the other scriptable games (UT/Quake) etc...
Tim Gift : If you mean DLL, or some other form of compiled language, I think there is no comparison. Having the compiler built right into the language makes things a lot easier. Though I guess the performance cost does preclude certain activities :) In TRIBES II, the scripts are now compiled into a intermediate byte code representation which is more efficient both in space and execution. "
