Noticed over on VE that the third installment of the Vampire: The Masquerade Design Log is now online. This update is by their Lead Artist. Here's a clip:

" One concern that was raised was how we were going keep the frame rates high when all the characters average 1,500 polygons. The original plan was to create low polygon versions of all the models. Thankfully for the artists, Ray had read an interesting article in Game Developer Magazine that described how to do dynamic levels of detail (or LOD) for a polygon mesh. What this means is that the polygons on the model can be reduced depending on how far away the camera is from the model. I was skeptical since I had seen so many 3D programs try and fail miserably, but Ray implemented it and had it working perfectly. This gave the art team a huge boost since all the models could be used all the time. "
