MESQUITE, Texas -- June 10, 2003 - At QuakeCon 2003, talking a good game will be as important as playing one. For the first time in the seven-year history of QuakeCon, id Software is launching an open call for speakers. Over 4,000 people are expected to attend QuakeCon 2003, the definitive fan-based video game tournament, convention and party, which is scheduled for Aug. 14-17 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Dallas, TX (www.adamsmark.com/Dallas ). "Workshops must hit the sweet spot and focus on topics that resonate with the fans," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Speakers have to compel gamers to leave the BYOC LAN area, step out of the exhibit area and take a break from tournament action. People making the trip to QuakeCon want to get the inside track, and this is a unique opportunity to speak directly to the most influential gaming fans in the world." The QuakeCon 2002 program featured more than 20 workshops and round-table discussions covering the latest in gaming technology, trends and advancements in computer hardware, mod creation and game development. This year, id Software plans to expand the program and offer attendees a broader, more in-depth view of the industry and explore the future. Submissions must include a 300-word abstract that describes the proposed session/workshop, a speaker biography and contact information. Packages should be sent to Wendy Zaas () and are due June 27. Speakers will be notified by email the week of July 7.
