Image Description, by Jerome Hugues

Hi my name is Jerome Hugues. I am the Lead and only Programmer thus far for Naturallaw Studio. We started developing this game in march of 2004 and as you can see it has come a long way. The engine is done in house using D3D8 at is core. The game is a mixture of Resident Evil and Metroid. It is like Resident Evil meet Metroid. The game starts inside the ship, where you have to unconver what took place. The game is not two players. One of the characters is basically the AI. The Ai behaves in a very smart manner. I am using a Combination of Pathfinding and some sort of neural network, where the Ai learns from you and is mistakes. The game is half 3D and half 2D or should i say 2D in 3D. Right now we are in the beta testing mode to release a playable version to the public until then, post your comment and let me know what you think of the screen shot thus far.

This particluar level looks very much like the end of Metal Slug 3. Coincidence?

Your Texture Artist seems to be doing a good job !

The lighting seems tense (which may be good for the game). is it done with lightmaps or real lights. I'm more inclined for the first, since there is a somewhat hard shift from the red in the left to a white on the right.

Are the levels played just in 2D like corridors ?

The hoses (on the left) have to few pixels to look good without antialiasing.

The pipes (on the right, roof) clearly show a polygonized structure. Either increase the tesselation where the curvature is higher, or use Sectioned Pipes, pre-made with predefined angles between them, like real water pipes.

The enemies are somewhat strange, at least looking at a still picture (Probably Programmers 3D Art, Cones and Ovals). They seem like small mechanic Spiders or something like that. Reminds me of the "Lost in Space" creatures that were attracted to heat.

Good luck on this project it's looking good, hope the game play matches it.

I would love to see that AI work, especially if it does what is expected, which is always a chalenge in these types of games, where strategy counts a lot.

Looks like a scene from Lost In Space, the movie.

Pipe, pipes, pipes... I think most of those are supposed to be cables? Flexible pipes are less common.

It looks like you actually have artists. You're better off than 90% of indie game teams :-) (unless you shamefully stole the art somewhere, of course -- which I wouldn't recommend)

Hi Everyone First and Foremost. Thanks for your Comments. I will take them in consideration. Now To Pinpoit somestuff out. First and Foremost all the arts are original and was not taken from anywhere else. There are so many games out there that something might look like something else because of coincidence. To Answer Rui Question, Yes i am using Lightmap for the Lighting of the Level. The Levels Are Prerendered Backgrounds with Build in Collision, Similar to Resident Evil Levels. Right now i only have one 3d artist and one 2d artist and i am the programmer. We are looking for more dedicated People that want to be part of the team.PS(Mostly Artist).if Anyone is Interested Please Email me at, and send some of your work so i can see if your style fits the game. Thanks Again everyone for your comments.
