Hi all, we are a team of 5 and these are some screenshots from a demo which is presenting the graphics engine used by our upcoming game called XYRAX_.

The demo has been built in december 2001, when our engine has been in an very early development state. So you won_t see that many features at all in this demo but a new engine demo which will be showing off all engine features will be developed soon! Due to this fact it_s currently only possible to view our demo using GeForce cards but that will also be fixed in the next demo version!

Engine Features so far:
  • Lightmaps (multitexturing)
  • Advanced particle system (object based emitters, dynamic linking of warps and emitters objects as particles)
  • Dynamic lighting
  • Spline interpolated motions (for cameras, objects, lights, etc.)
  • Internal lightmap render (Point, Spot, Linear, Area Lights, colored Shadows)
  • Atmosphere (Planets, Multiple cloud layers, Dynamic skydome, Distance Fog)
  • advanced bones system (importation of .bvh files possible)
  • Collision Detection
  • Advanced texture management (minimal use of texture memory, S3 texture compression)
  • Screen effects (Flash, Snow, Rain, blood, etc.)
  • Transparency (order dependend drawing, additive / subtractive blending modes)
  • Core 3d engine (full optimized for OpenGL, minimal redundancy for switching to other APIs)
  • Due to the fact that XYRAX uses it_s own file system we developed a tool which provides the following features:
  • Particle effects editor
  • Lightmap generator
  • Bones generator
  • Skydome generator
  • Some information about XYRAX

    XYRAX will be sort of an multiplayer online first person shooter! It_s featuring all known game modes from games like Q3, Rtcw, Unreal, Counterstrike_ There will also be 4 new game modes which have never been seen before.

    The main point during building XYRAX was and is, that it should be easier to use, especially in server mode, then other games. That means that there will be an easy to use interface for both server and client so you be able to use a specific command as fast as possible. The other point was that the whole game should be configurable, so if you open up a server you will be able to configure just everything so everybody can build his very own individual game mode!

    When XYRAX will be released, there will also be an online community which will provide all gamers with features like statistik tracking, maps, mods, skins_

    I disagree. D3D is constantly revised and has undergone major changes. Even the recent 8.X releases are just basically point releases for different vendors cards. It really isn't that much different.

    It's a bit too fast on my GeForce4, obliged to put FSAAx4, what a shame ;-)
    I hope the game will hold that quality, very nice !

    some not so constructive comments:

    * the tunnel scene is too long. i was 1 cm away from pressing ESC.
    * way too dark (especially the outdoor scene outside the house)
    * the burning cross was VERY nice and those flying sculls were actually pretty scare (like the zombies in RTCW).
    * did we see any actual gameplay? nope.
    * fast download site! :)

    anyway, it looks good.

    Just wait 1 hour, we are currently getting some new servers online...
    The others are closed, caus of a traffic of about !!14 GByte!! in the last 12 hours... well thats just too much for that servers...

    But in about an hour there will be new servers online!

    Never seen before is a _very_ strong phrase.

    I'd prolly change it to "Never seen before, atleast not by us" or something similar :)

    Screenshots look nice, especially the ring of fire. (What is it with us programmers and fire?)

    I sure hope you state that somewhere in your EULA, since it is illegal in some countries to gather such data without permission.

    If you read the IOTD-text, it clearly says that "Here is the demo". It doesn't say "Here is the game."

    nice demo... as others stated before, it's rather dark.... where are you guys from? your names sound like germany or austria... atteam could stand for austria-team... am i right?

    We are changing mirror all the time due the massive traffic (about 13 GByte in the last 12 hours)! And it's easyer to look at a database on how many demos have been installed then check all the stats on the mirros :)

    Next time we won't count it anymore, due the fact you ppl out there don't like it :) But its deffinitly no spyware or something like that...just a counter!!

    D3D is worse in this matter than OpenGL in my opinion. After all, D3D has undergone many changes that have remained constant for OpenGL. Sure the extensions are different, but D3D 8.* has been nothing more than extension catch up's for the same reason.

    Hopefully OpenGL 2.0 will fix these discrepancies.

    Slam: Don`t make it for GF only.
    It is happening all to much these days.
    That pisses me off.
    The graphics may look good, but I will never know.

    No not at all :-)

    We are trying to use our own servers but we have to change em frome time to time. Like I said before, 2 hours after posted on IOTD our first server had 13GByte traffic :-) So we have to change servers, otherwise we would pay the traffic ,-)

    Maybe you should have read some other posts. I allready explained why the demo is for GeForce only.. The game won't be for a specific card, everybody should be able to play it :-)
