Image Description, by Jason Buchanan

Attached is an image of the day for a java based Tetris applet I am building. It is the first real game I've built and one of the first debate-ably useful programs I've created. If you are interested in the source you may download it at:
http://www.visualfxi.com/tetris/tetris.zip

Note that this will compile and run using Java 1.3 SE SDK and the appletviewer that comes with it.

I really like the background look. Is it painted and scanned in ? A constructive comment: the jewels on the right seems to me to not stand out enough - perhaps because of the thick lines in the background.

Hmm, java1.3 and applet, why not use 1.1.8 which is supported by most browsers?

So long as he doesn't use swing or any of the other 1.3 components, other browsers can pick that applet up. However, old school java applets have very dry user interfaces, so this is somewhat of an encouragement for others to download the java 1.3 plug-in to support those new features.

nice gui, it would be much cooler if you skinned the fonts with bigger graphical ones though :)

cool design. one hint: i think the shadows of the tetris jewels dont have the same form as the jewels. maybe you want to fix that.

Graphics somehow remind me of those Monty Python cartoon bits they used to stick in their films. Is the "Jewels" thing gonna crash down on you whilst playing the game? Maybe make it hinge and then break and fall down, that would be nice. :)

PS: This is a compliment ;)

Usually, but not always! I've seen some really impressive UI's done in plain old 1.1 recently. Will try to dig up a link...
