Image Description, by Justin Eslinger

After one year of development, it is finaly complete! Tropical Storm 1.01 has been released.

It's quite simple. Marxist rebels, working along with drugrunning Facist insurgents, and terrorists from the Greenland Liberation Army have established several bases on small islands in the Pacific Ocean. As a commando with a fairly dramatic-sounding name, it's your job to blow them to bits.

Your mission will be complicated by the large number of identical looking Commie soldiers prowling around the island. Moreover, using ancient Marxist reincarnation technology, they will reappear alive and well at a bunker, several seconds after being killed. So, you have to move fast to destroy all the buildings you can with your absurdly powerful grenades. You can't blow up the bunkers, so don't even try.

Mission Objectives:
The objective for each mission is the same-destroy all the brick buildings. The concrete buildings are indestructable respawn bunkers.

  • 6 single player missions.
  • Random map mode
  • 3 Distinct Weapons ( Bizon, USP, Grenades )
  • Mp3 Playability
  • Dynamic Terrain
  • Particle System
  • Skeletal Animation
  • Menu System
  • 3D Sound

I actually have been following the development of this game for quite some time now and I feel that the end product is quite good!

Great work guys and I cannot wait to see what you come up with next.

PS. Looking for another Programmer? :P

Ok, I'm sure Dr. Mosh will be confuzed =)
I wrote the message above, the msgboard gave me an error message:
    "This thread ID already exists"

dreeze ... I got the same thing, but it eventually worked ... who knows :)

    January 29, 2002, 11:23 AM

    Sorry, I'm confusing again =)
Dr. Mosh wrote a message that contained almost exactly what I'd written, and then the msgboard gave me an error message, I thought that was what happened.
Anyway, I didn't write the message I said I, well, the first message in the thread pretty much says what I wanted to say.
I'd better stop typing now or something else will go wrong...

Those explosions really look kickass. Nice particle code.

    January 29, 2002, 11:56 AM

Hmmmm, what a surprise ! The webpage is supposed to be crappy with Netscape browsers... damn what netscape version ?

It looks fine with any mozilla 0.9.x based browsers (including netscape >=6) so you can moderate the popup message... "Looks crappy with outdated netscape browsers..."

My 2 euro cents to this thread

There page does not even display in Netscape 4.79.

That is why I use IE, it rules (but lets not get that argument started)

    January 29, 2002, 12:01 PM

i personally know how hard it is to actually finish something so lots of respect to you all!

    January 29, 2002, 12:19 PM

Looks really cool, but I think the trees need a little more detail. Then it really looks like TC: Ghost Recon

    January 29, 2002, 12:26 PM

    It's me again

The game seems to lock when i restart a level, i had to force a closedown..

apart from this: excellent work... it looks great and plays smoothly!

    January 29, 2002, 12:37 PM

    ancient Marxist reincarnation technology.. ?
do you speak about some anti-capitalism ideology and 2 or 3 quotation from a karl marx book ??? :-)))

    January 29, 2002, 01:44 PM

    January 29, 2002, 01:51 PM

In the middle picture it looks like you're about to slingshot the guy or something.

    January 29, 2002, 03:09 PM

hi nice Work !! The Hole ont the terrain when it explode on it are a good idea !

    January 29, 2002, 03:59 PM

Tropical Storm is a cool name

    January 29, 2002, 04:40 PM

    It looks like geforce3-rendered DeltaForce1...
    but the gameplay looks cool.
    good work.

    January 29, 2002, 04:51 PM

Nice particle effects! (Has been said before, but I really like them)

One off-topic quip though - Marxist rebels would never associate themselves with fascists. The Russians spent a lot of time and energy over the years fighting fascism. ;)

Looks like fun. I love the simplicity.

I won't comment on IE or Netscape except to say that my Lynx r00lz y00 all! Haha. :]

    January 29, 2002, 05:27 PM

I think it's you GFX card, our game doesn't seem to like matrox at all. I had a motrox G400 myself once, when I started coding OGL, I bought a GeForce2. IMO matrox drivers are very crappy.

    January 29, 2002, 06:04 PM

Of course not, which is exactly why we made them allied in the game. :)
And of course, we know they both hate those pesky Greenlanders!

    January 29, 2002, 08:13 PM

Ah, my mistake. I took your ITOD to mean that the Fascist and Marxist factions were working togther, and that the player was on the opposing team.

    January 29, 2002, 08:37 PM

Looks really cool, I will download it now.

I remember your tech demo last year. You just have to love those absurdly powerful grenades. I am glad you kept them :o)

    January 29, 2002, 08:41 PM

Yeah I have to agree IE is great. Specially the way it freezes after using it for over 10 mins and then crashes all the other currently open IE browsers..... It's been cleverly designed to save on internet usage.

    January 29, 2002, 10:15 PM

    you: people don't have tails.
him: that's why I gave them tails!
you: oh I see now. you didn't give them tails.
