Image Description, by flipCode

Assuming your web browser didn't explode while trying to load that enormous image, you'll have surely realized by now that today is the Image Of The Day's 2nd anniversary! Just before August 11th, 1999, I managed to talk Luke Hodorowicz into snapping a shot of his engine for a new feature I wanted to launch on flipCode. 2 years later, as Luke and I discussed ideas for the 2nd anniversary image, he suggested featuring them ALL at once. Take a moment to look over more than 450 reader-submitted images! That's a heck of a lot of pixels, many of them arranged in ways that've no doubt inspired us all.

Cheers to everyone who's featured an image here. Keep 'em coming!

Happy Birthday IOTD!
Thanks Kurt for providing us such a great site like

We need more landscape-engines for the next 2 years ... come on folks,
we can do it !

August 11, 2001, 12:49 PM

I feel like something is missing...

Ah! My own IOTD of course. I planned one this summer but my life isn't going according to the plan :P I promise one when I can work at my engine again and finish a demo.

Anyway: Happy birthday and many thanks to Kurt!

2 years? congrats ! however, I post here already ... more than 1 year I guess.
I think I provide for people with very useful information. You should all be very happy ...

This IOTD is useful for me, as I can learn from other's mistakes
BTW, I saw here *extremely* useful suggestion about coffee, and Im goin to use it now

Really think that this Image Of The Day must be much greater. Thus way my poor IOTD would be more visible between all that programming fantasies showed to us by these hard working coders day by day. My dads are very dissapointed that my IOTD was not so visible now :-(

I'm in a hurry to see how 10th aniversary image size will come to. Until then I will visit this section and this site everyday. The time I spend in it worths enough.

Nutter: I'm afraid that I have to join to group of freaks who remember them all.. especially that smiley face; I started to wonder where it'd gone after I missed it the first few scans of the image.. but it was there after all! *whew*

Yeah, that was one of the better IOTD's :) Together with Jaap being busy with snowboarding, Max being busy with juggling and some guys being busy with wearing flipShirts ...

and of course my own IOTD ;)

Wow, what a hell of a 3D card, how did you get it to render into more than 450 windows at the same time ??? ;-)

August 11, 2001, 03:14 PM

It's not that impressive if you know it runs at 1.585 10-8 FPS ;)

can't wait for the five and 10 year anniversary on ubernet :) the picture with all the screenshots will become so large that new types of videocards will be required just to show the static image on the new ultra monitors ;)

August 11, 2001, 06:25 PM

Plus all the source code ;) The only problem is time, I'm redoing my exams right now and I didn't even have the time to finish the TODO list I wrote during my previous examination period, but I'll get there...

August 11, 2001, 06:28 PM

"Is there an IOTY?"

Hehe, maybe it would be interesting to have an election!? :)
