hey xEricx
Actually, there can be fire in space, as long as the burning substance releases enough oxygen in the process of burning. (TNT works underwater too for example)
With the difference of pression between the container and the space itself, the oxygen would be spread away within a second... so it's *almost* impossible to have fire in space :)
Maybe the red stuff is just glowing (because of extreme heat) particles of metal that are being blasted around?
About the IOTD :
I'm still waiting for the ultimate space adventure game. Something between a Jack Vance novel & Elite but with endless procedurally generated galaxies & impressive A.I.
I mean if something like Elite was possible in a few thousand bytes of code, I wonder wath would be possible with today's hardware (and I'm not talking about graphics)...
To have fire in space you just need a source of oxygen and a source of burnable material. Besides, how else do you think they did all those cool explosions in Star Wars?
great IOTD!! How do you manage mobile objects in the octree?
LordDaha, I'm interested in what you mentioned about the Elite game, I ran a search and all i got is Elite Force, can you fill me in a little on what that game is about, it sounds different.
aside from the discussion about whether or not u can have fire in space. im on the yay team btw
is it really sensible to have an octree for a space game like this eg take the bottom picture what node is the spacecraft in? none of them which nullifys the use of an octree. dont wanna be a downner or anything but octrees fit better in plays wheres theres a lot of polygons in close proximity, something that space doesnt have much of.
nice to see anyways a space picture makes a change.
Those explosions are mostly to cover the low poly meshes "exploding apart"... else it would only look like a few triangles moving apart from each other. It wouldn't look realistic for the common people since they're used to see fire in the movies and stuff...
Well if the bullet peirced a pressurized hull (which contained oxygen) AND hit something explosive then there would be a nice short burst of red maybe ;)
The IOTD and the news section is updated pretty late on the day compared to a week ago or two, seems like someone is having a bit of a vacation around here :-D
