Here are some screenshots of my first game, Tetris Master. I wanted to make a clone of tetris that looks like the snes version (the best version of tetris for me) with some improvements.

The game runs with DirectX 8.0 so I can take advantadge of 3d cards (for the moment only for alphablending). To draw an image, I cut it in smaller part of 256*256. Then I put the textures on basic squares with 2d coordonates. Working in 3d is really cool because for example I can make 2d font with antialiasing and some other effects.

You can check out the game and download it at : http://www.tetrismaster.be.tf

Hi

I am currently looking into making a 2-D platformer (for a project) and was wondering if there were any tutorials on using DX8 in 2-D. I know direct draw has been taken put of DX8 and wanted to know how difficult it would be to do a 2-d game. Any sites with tutorials would be appreciated

Well another example is OpenIL which is a totally free image loading library. They were bullied by SGI to change their name because they said it was too close to OpenGL. How stupid is that?!?!?

Anyway, yes, they could probably put out a cease and desist order, but they wouldn't sue you for anything because they know there's nothing to be had aside from stopping you from doing what you're doing. And when they do call you and tell you to stop, you can just stop.

I am really stuck on the professional look and feel of your game. Are all of the backgrounds bitmaps? If so, what did you use to make them? The entire feel is just very clean.
