Image Description, by Michael Grayford

This is a screenshot of our (Liquid Entertainment) upcoming real-time strategy game, Battle Realms. The game is heavily in progress, and we are still working on many of the game's systems. The game is fully 3D (of course), with four different clans, an interconnected resource system, realistic line-of-sight, battle plans and formations, and mostly just good RTS fun!

We are a little over halfway through development, but we are always looking for talented folk to join our team. Check out our job listing in FlipCode's job center, posted by Rob Sandberg.

Wow! That looks cool and such. Is your grass just a texture?

Nice screenshot
but the stone bridge across the water could do with some work IMHO.
The other stones which have ripples around them look out of place because if the water is moving at high speeds you'll never get ripples like those.

The characters seem to be 3d, as well as the water (using particles?).. but is the rest *realtime* 3d ?

Y.

This is just beyond cool. I love the little modeled guys. =] I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on this.

Wonderful colors, nice details (water, trees & grass). Fine effects I see there (ripples). But what are the estimated system requirements? ;)

Wow. Some of that looks ISO. Is it really 3d?

The ripples aren't done using decals are they?

Hi, all.
Thank you for the kind words. Let me answer some of your questions.
- Yes, the grass is a texture, though as you can see we also have little bushes, plants, and weeds as models.
- I agree that the stone bridge across the water is weak. This will be much improved before we ship.
- Yes, everything is realtime 3D - the terrain, buildings, units, particles, trees, rocks and even parts of the interface will be 3D.
- The current plan for minimum system specs is a P2-333 with a 12 MB 3D card. It may not look as nice, but will be playable.
- As for the dark shadow at the bottom right looking odd, yes, we are doing some tricks to make the height look more apparent. Before we ship, each map will be re-examined and touched up by the artists.
- The ripples that you see are decals, though the water does animate.

Again, thanks for all the positive response! We are putting as much thought and effort into the gameplay as we are the visuals, so a screenshot doesn't do justice to the overall game. Expect Battle Realms the middle of next year. Oh, and if you or any other developers (coders, artists, designers) are looking for a job, just check out the job listing on this site and drop us a line.

Mike.

Looking mighty fine matey! When can we expect a demo? :-) I want to see the water move...

Oh and remember RTS is about one thing: Control... Well.. sorta :-)

Very cool looking screenshot! Just don't use such sharp cliffs, they don't look very good, everything else looks cool. It looks all set for an RTS, now just make good gameplay and do new stuff... i hope that ugy can mount a horse and get off it too :-)
