Hi,

what kind of algorithm can be used to merge at least two images into one? The images are taken let's say from left to right but overlap by some pixels.

The process you're referring to is commonly called "photograph stitching" or "image stitching". Doing a google search for those (with or without quotes) can give you some ideas.
