hi, i want to know if there is a method for programming dynamic spotlights using a single
lightmap other than building a light volume and clipping all polygons against it ?

Well, the general route to follow I would think would be to change the lightmap to show the changes in lighting caused by the spotlight and upload it to your API before rendering it. Like dynamic lighting in Quake engines...
