Here's a collage of shots from the latest Gaia Engine (version 1.3). The original Gaia engine was included with the book "Real-Time 3D Terrain Engines using C++ and DirectX 9" last year, but it's been receiving steady updates since then at The engine features DirectX 9, HLSL shaders, ROAM, Chunked Terrain and Tiled Terrain methods. The latest edition to the site includes a PDF doc which also helps explain some of the memory management and C++ template usage in the engine for new readers. Feedback is welcome in the forums at as well.
